I hope to see you Soon in Seattle

With the 2017 Annual Congress just around the corner, I could not be more excited to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and engage with our members. The Annual Congress is the single best place for CRNAs to gain new knowledge on innovative topics such as Enhanced Recovery After Anesthesia, the Business of Anesthesia and Practice Management, and the State of the Science.

I also could not be more honored to start my term as your president during the meeting. I intend to continue using this time to explore the thoughts and concerns of today’s nurse anesthetists. This upcoming year will undoubtedly bring new challenges—some that we can anticipate and others that may come as surprises. But, together, AANA leadership and membership will continue to strengthen and protect the profession we all love.  A key initiative will be to undertake the critical work of developing a new strategic plan for the AANA that focuses on advancing the profession and addressing the needs of our members. You the members have elected an amazing Board of Directors for FY 2018 that will continue to move our profession forward now and in the future.

As we plan ahead, we will also concern ourselves with the pressing matters of today’s healthcare environment, including continuing education, demands on leadership and governance, and federal and state advocacy that protects and advances our profession in the face of ongoing challenges from the medical community. Enhanced communication and increased member engagement will be the foundation of our efforts. As we focus on making AANA relevant to all CRNAs, we want to hear from you about what you need from the AANA.

This is an exciting time to be a nurse anesthetist, and, working together, we can all make a difference!
